My music magazine research

R'n'B is a well known and popular genre of music. It is also a globalised genre with artist such as Beyonce, Rita Ora and Adele. All three of these artist are well known within this genre and are well known globally thus helping make this genre wider and more popular. The typical mise en scene elements consist of simple colours such as black, white and grey. This helps to exaggerate the main image which is normally a famous artist of the specific genre, for example Billboard magazine have made the image of Beyonce  knowles in black and white, this contrasts with the bright colours highlighted in the name of the magazine. Typically most music magazines have a popular or an  up coming artist featured on the front cover with either a quote from the artist or information on them, they also have a  feature story on the front cover that will be in the magazine. They also have a barcode, issue number, date, title, byline, information which will be featured in the magazine (such as prizes and popular stories) and pictures. R 'n' B is not specific to any gender as it is aimed at both male and female, and is usually made clear on the front cover, so that the buyer is sure that the magazine is for him/her. The colours that they usually use are dark colours, such as: Dark Purple, Black and Dark Blue, white and grey. This explains to the reader that the R&B genre of magazines are not gender-biased, as they are presented with dull colours, which in some ways would appeal to both genders as it is a mix of colours for both. The style of font is normally simple and clear this is so all readers will be able to see it and so it will stand out more on a shelf of magazines. For example in ELLE magazine there font is simple and you can still recognise the brand even if a part of the title is covered by the main image.
