Contents page draft

Final Magazine Cover

For my final magazine cover I have decided to select the image and layout from my second draft, however I have decided to edit the colour scheme and change the burgundy to purple I feel this colour scheme is better suited to my theme of R&B as well as making it stand out more compared to my other drafts. For my front cover I have decided to use a variation of fonts to make certain stories stand out more to the audience, this also makes the cover more interesting. For my title I have downloaded a font from Font Space this is a multi media site which I have used for the majority of my fonts. I chose this specific font because it is bold and eye catching to the audience it can be seen well on a shelf with other magazines as it stands out. For my first story 'Inside the Grammies' I have placed it into a slightly opaque box, I have then used white text to emphasis the story and cause it to stand out, I have then layered a picture of a Grammy underneath the story,  I done this because as the box is slightly opaque this causes the story and the image to stand put from the background.

Magazine front cover draft 2

For this draft I have experimented with the colour scheme and have changed the image on the cover. I feel like this image suites more genre more and is more appropriate. For my colour scheme I have experimented with using burgundy, black and white, however I feel this colour scheme dose not stand out enough and am considering changing the colour burgundy to purple to make it more electric and to fit the genre better. I am happy with the placing of my stories so I will keep them in the same place.

First Magazine cover draft

This is my first initial draft for my magazine cover. I used a bold and dramatic font (that I downloaded from font space) for my title to help it stand out on a shelf, My main image is covering the whole page showing a soft side to the artist features. I tried to keep it to the same colour scheme and have alternative fonts on my front cover  to keep it interesting and to help it stand out. Some stories are in boxes to illustrate its importance and to make it more edgy. I have included traditional conventions such as the barcode on which I have placed at the bottom of the page, I have also included the issue number and date however you can not see this so I plan to change it in my next draft.  I have also used photoshop to place my magazine on a stand to see how it looks and what I can do to make it stand out more.

The representation of male and female artists in R&B

Both male and female artists have a representation that makes them recognisable to the genre R&B. Male artists have a slick and simple look; normally with a stylish hat, smart jacket and casual trousers. Their hair is short or very long with smart and tidy facial hair. However there are two sides to R&B when women are sexualised for example Rihanna and Beyonce, their costumes are highly sexualised and 'skimpy' this is an example of how R and B has changed throughout the years. For my magazine I wish to create a simple and stylish look with costume changes and hair and make-up. I want my artist to be urban and stylish and non sexualised as I do not feel this is appropriate for the younger half of my chosen age range. Both men and women within the genre are seen in many different ways depending on the artist, hair and make-up plays an important role in perception of perticular artists. For example the female artist always has very dramatic hair to create an eye catching look, the eye make-up is very defined and bold drawing attention to the face of the artist. Red lipstick is often worn to make them seem more alluring and bold. Current male R and B artists are percived as raw and almost 'ganster'. their clothing consists of torn jeans and sometimes topless, they also sometimes have tattoos consiating of sleave tattoos and chest tattoos

Magazine features plan

For my fonts I have decided to go for classic styles that will be linked back to old style R&B. This will be my main theme for my magazine. I have chosen the font I have because I feel this bet fit the genre.
