Audience research

Each genre of music magazines have a different type of audience, this depends on the type of music, style, layout, colours, artist they use etc.

POP

Pop is one of the most common and popular types of music, their main type of audience is young girls ranging from 13-17 however it does appeal to some young boys. When doing research I  discovered that out of 10 girls aged 16-17 8/10 girls said the prefer POP music to any other genre, the other two said that the varied between genres. When asking 10 boys aged 16-17 only 2 out of 10 boys asked said they liked POP.

Rock

Rock is seen as a genre with a mixed aged audience. There are many different sub genes of rock such as indie, and each sub genre has their own specific audience. What is stereotypically known as pure rock has an older generation as its audience because it was a specific genre when they was growing up in the 60's and the 70's however now their are more sub genres now giving it a broader audience.

Classical

The main audience for classical music is aged between 50-70 years old for both genders. Classical has a very specific type of audience and was known to be listened to be mainly upper class people during the victorian period.

Reggae

Reggae was pioneered through the 60's and 70's, their primary audience was poor working class Jamaicans, however this spread across the globe being listened to by all ages, race and gender. Reggae was used as a branch for many sub-genres such as hip-hop and ska. One of the most popular artist from reggae was Bob Marley. His music appealed to all types of people from young to old.

Country

39% of country music listeners are apart of the top demographics, Each week, more than 45,487,700 adults listen to Country radio stations nationwide. There is no specific age for a country music listener, country music has a wide audience with artist such as Taylor Swift.

R'n'B

Most of R'n'B's songs are based on love this therefore will appeal to an audience of 16 years old to 32 years old, this is because they would have been more likely to experience love and then would be able to relate to it. They have a mixed gender audience as this genre is not specific to one gender.
