Top of the Pops magazine is published by the BBC which is a well know conglomerate company in the UK as well as being known world wide. Top of the Pops is published monthly, this is a supplementary magazine for the music TV show Top of the Pops which was cancelled later in 2006, however it is still aired for christmas specials.
Jazz Times is an American magazine devoted to jazz. Published 10 times a year, it was founded in 1970 by Ira Davidson Sabin as a newsletter called Radio Free Jazz.
Target audience
Top of the Pops main target audience is young teenage girls aged 11-15. 87% of the readership is girls and the other 13% is young boy. It cost £2.30 and can be seen as quite expensive for this audience demographic however it is made up by the fact that they give away free gifts such as nail polish and posters.
Jazz Times target audience is aimed at an older american audience, this is because jazz originated from African-American communities therefore having grown up with it and liking the magazine.
Style and representation
Top of the Pops target audience is young girls and its style therefore needs to be fun and girly. This is represented through the glittery title and the main image of a well known pop icon, Jessie J. This attracts their target audience as this is what is known to link to this demographic.
Jazz times style is slick and simple. This is a representation of jazz music style and what is known across the genre.
